Jason Segel's latest vehicle held off competition from Keanu Reeves and Forest Whitaker crime thriller Street Kings, which landed at two.

The only other new entry came from Ben Affleck's drama Gone Baby Gone, which entered at number ten.

PANETTIERE: 'I'M NOT A NORMAL TEENAGER'

Hayden Panettiere has admitted that she doesn't live the life of a normal teenage girl.

The actress said that appearing in Heroes has severely altered her lifestyle, claiming she couldn't remember the last time she bought a cup of coffee.

Panettiere told Grazia: "Do I have time to be a normal teenager? Absolutely. Am I a normal teenager? Absolutely not.

"It impacts on your life incredibly. Even walking down the street - I can't remember the last time I walked around the corner to get coffee."

The TV star also defended former teenage sensation Britney Spears, arguing that the media "built her up" before knocking her down.

She commented: "No one gave Britney enough room to heal. She was the epitome of beauty. She was everything to every teenage girl when I was growing up. And we built her up and ripped her down."

VENTIMIGLIA PROUD OF FERGIE VIDEO

Milo Ventimiglia has claimed that working with Fergie on the pop video for 'Big Girls Don't Cry' was "fun".

The Heroes star played the role of a drug-dealing boyfriend in the Black Eyed Peas star's promo last year. He said the best thing about the project was that it allowed him "to strap on a different character" for a while.

Ventimiglia told the BBC: "Who wouldn't want to sit around wearing tattoos making out with Fergie?

"It was great fun. It was an opportunity as an actor to try and do something a little different."

He added: "People would look at me and wonder, 'Wow, do you really have all of those tattoos, and is that a real ponytail, and are you a drug dealer?' It was fun to strap on a different character."

HEROES STAR DEFENDS SECOND SEASON

Heroes star Adrian Pasdar has dismissed fan criticism of the show's second season.

The actor, who plays politician Nathan Petrelli, said the shortened second run would "make sense" in the grand scheme of the show. Creator Tim Kring had previously conceded that several plotlines were too long-winded and had underserved the audience.

"We had to get through that to get to where we're going to go this year," Pasdar told DS. "I think we've found our footing again."

Co-star Milo Ventimiglia said that his character - Nathan's all-powerful brother Peter - would be a walking dichotomy in season three. "I think Peter's going to be exploring many sides to his psyche," he said. "You're going to see a side of him that you're going to love and embrace, and you're going to see a side of him that you're going to hate."

VENTIMIGLIA LAUGHS AT 'SEX SYMBOL' STATUS

Milo Ventimiglia has admitted he and his friends make fun of his status as a sex symbol.

Speaking at the BAFTA Television Awards after Heroes picked up the Best International Show prize, the actor said he finds "humour" in his heartthrob image.

"My friends make fun of me a lot more nowadays because of it. I'm just a normal guy with a day job like anybody else to them," he said.

"When you get magazines saying, 'Hey, that guy's sexy' or people scream it from their cars as they're driving by - my friends and I find a lot of humour in it."

Ventimiglia's co-star Adrian Pasdar, who plays his brother Nathan Petrelli on the hit show, said he found it "silly" that people think of him as sexy.

Ventimiglia disagreed adding: "It's not so silly. I get to stand close to him in every scene we do and we're always touching. He is a sexy man."

HAYDEN WAS 'TORTURED BY BULLIES'

Heroes star Hayden Panettiere has revealed that her success as an actress led to her being bullied at school.

The actress found fame at an early age, starring in soap operas One Life to Live and Guiding Light in the 90s. She is now best known for her role as cheerleader Claire Bennet on the hit US superhero show.

"At school I was teased a lot because I was an actor. They used to be awful," Panettiere, now 18, explained. "I went through a big period where I was tortured at school. Absolutely ripped apart.

"It was very hard for me but I think it made me a stronger person and I'm glad that it happened."

Hayden recently admitted that she finds it hard to deal with the "intrusive" behaviour of the paparazzi in Los Angeles.

NBC TO SEND 'ON-DEMAND' SERVICE TO EUROPE

Shows such as Heroes may be available pre-broadcast in the UK under NBC Universal plans to launch a global video-on-demand service.

The production company is agreeing distribution deals in up to ten European and Asian countries for the TV Box service. In some markets, the content will be part of existing subscription packages.

NBC's international TV head Belinda Menendez described it as the television version of PictureBox, the network's premium on-demand movie channel, which is currently available through Top Up TV and Tiscali TV.

NBC and BT yesterday announced that PictureBox would also join BT Vision, the TV service which combines Freeview and on-demand content over DSL broadband, from May 5.

TV Box will carry current and past NBC series and be updated regularly. Menendez said big titles such as Heroes may be available before they are broadcast for an extra cost.

Menendez, who is based in London, told The Hollywood Reporter that agreements were imminent in up to ten countries. "TV Box is the next step in the evolution of our branded on-demand product offering, it's the television version of PictureBox," she said.

HEROES STAR STUNNED BY FAN WORSHIP

Heroes star Adrian Pasdar has compared the current adoration towards the show's cast with Beatlemania.

"It's so abstract and difficult to get a handle on how successful it's become when we're in the middle of it, working, trying to do the best job we can," the Nathan Petrelli actor told Radio Times magazine.

"There was one moment we got a real taste of what it was like to be The Beatles," he added, referring to a recent promotional trip to Paris for Heroes.

However, Pasdar admitted that such heightened levels of fame will not last long: "It's so temporary. You always know there's going to be another new hit show and a new bunch of people in the limelight. The real benefit is that it gives you the ability to choose work down the line."

VENTIMIGLIA TO CREATE COMIC BOOK SERIES

Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia is to feature in a series of comic books.

The actor, who plays Peter Petrelli in the NBC drama, has signed a deal with Devil's Due Publishing to create a four-issue miniseries called Rest.

He and producing partner Russ Cundiff will develop the books via their Divide Pictures company, with Mark Powers (Drafted) attached to write them from a story by Mike O'Sullivan.

The issues will focus on the dangers of staying awake as the Ventimiglia-inspired central character becomes embroiled in a conspiracy between a malevolent pharmaceutical firm and the US government.

The project will be unveiled at New York's Comic-Con today and published in the autumn.

If successful, the books may be made into a TV show or movie, reports Variety.

Ventimiglia can currently be seen in medical thriller Pathology.

HEROES TO BE RELEASED ON 'BLU-RAY'

Season two of Heroes will be the first of 29 new titles to be released on Blu-ray in 2008.

Universal Pictures International Entertainment (UPIE) announced plans to release the series on August 26 as part of its global rollout of the HD format.

The first season of the NBC show will also make its Blu-ray debut at the same time.

UPIE President Eddie Cunningham said: “I am delighted that highly anticipated feature films and TV titles from one of Universal’s strongest lineups ever will be available on Blu-ray for the first time. I am confident that consumers will be incredibly excited about the fantastic titles on offer."

Upcoming Universal movies The Incredible Hulk, Wanted, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Mamma Mia! and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will be released on Blu-ray and DVD later in the year.

Other titles in the lineup include The Mummy, Gladiator, American Gangster, Miami Vice, Casino and The Thing.

Heroes to return with as a "3 HOUR EVENT"

Heroes will return in the US with a three-hour "event" in September.

Unveiling its scheduling plans for 2008-09, NBC promised a "major relaunch" to boost the third season of the cult series. The show last aired in the US in December before the writers' strike took hold, meaning it will have been off screens for almost nine months by the time it comes back.

NBC programming head Ben Silverman said the event would include a one hour clip/recap show followed by a two-hour season premiere.

The season is expected to air in two halves, each consisting of continuous blocks of more than ten episodes. The first will begin in September, with the second following in February.

Meanwhile, in the UK, BBC Two has scheduled the second season of Heroes to begin on April 24.

Hayden Panettiere to star in "No Kiss List"

Hayden Panettiere will star in the big screen adaptation of Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List.

Written by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan, the novel tells the story of Naomi and her gay best friend Ely who try to protect their friendship by producing a list of people who are off limits for kissing.

However, their friendship is threatened when Ely ends up getting intimate with Naomi's boyfriend.

The script will be adapted by Amy Andelson and Emily Meyer, while Lesley Vogel and Emily Gerson-Saines will produce, reports Variety.

The Heroes star is currently working on two other films, I Love You, Beth Cooper and Daydream Nation.

She is also planning to launch her music career in the autumn with debut single 'Wake Up Call'.

After first defeating top-seed Nicole Kidman, Panettiere has now beaten Lost’s Evangeline Lilly in the second round of HDTV ‘Hottie Hysteria’ — TVPredictions.com’s elimination tournament to determine who’s the hottest female in High-Definition TV.

Another Season Three Spoiler

Japanese actress Eriko Tamura (pictured) - who played the 16th-century love interest of Hiro at the outset of Heroes last season - has admitted that her character will play a role in season three.

Please, television gods, tell us this doesn’t mean Hiro goes back to feudal Japan again.

Tamura said that her character, Taeko, was supposed to be transported to the present in episodes that were scripted, but not finished before the writers’ strike commenced last fall.

“I am going to be in the present, yes,” Tamura assured viewers in an interview. “I actually had a few episodes of the script then. Suddenly, the strike happened, so we had to stop the shooting.”

Hayden Panettiere recently talked to UK’s Titan Magazine about what her fellow Heroes costars are like. Here’s what she had to say:

“Adrian Pasdar, we’ve always said, is like the big brother. He always wants to take you here, take you there – he’s the leader when [cast-members are on tour together]. Greg Grunberg is a goofball, Milo Ventimiglia is more of a flirt, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Masi Oka are great.

Ali Larter and I are girls, we stick together. Jack Coleman I’m very close to. I get to work with him a lot, and he’s so much fun. He’s so funny and he’s such a bright man. It’s fun to be around somebody like that who is bright, but funny at the same time. Zach Quinto, who plays Sylar, is funny as anything, and he’s a good friend, too.

And Ashley Crow, who plays my mom – they all have their own personalities, and it’s a hoot when we get together.

“Everyone has a crush on either Milo or Sendhil, but then I look at Greg and Adrian and Masi, and I see that everyone has crushes on them, too. We have a cast full of heartthrobs, what can I say? It’s not only a large cast, but it’s a large cast of really good actors. When you’re around such good actors, you want to bring yourself up to their level and strive to do your best.

At the same time, in this show, we don’t always get the chance to work with each other, so it’s almost like showing off every time you get to work with [any cast-mate]. You’re so excited, because it’s like, ‘Ooh, I’ve got to be really good, because I’m working with so-and-so today.’”

David "Adam Munroe" Anders Speaks About Season Three

Not that anyone believed Adam Monroe was actually down for the permanent count when Hiro buried him alive to end season two, but David Anders recently confirmed that he’s likely to play a key role in Heroes Season Three.

“I believe so, yeah. I hope so. I know I’m going to be in one of the first six [episodes] so,” Anders told SyFy Portal’s Alan Stanley Blair at this weekend’s Eclipse event in the United Kingdom. “But after that, it’s called “Villains,” and I am an uber-villain.”

In the third volume of the series, the villains of the show will get a chance to show just how evil they can be. Among them are Adam, Angela Petrelli (Christine Rose) and 12 new characters still to be revealed. Then there’s the true, major villain of the show, of course.

“Sylar is hard to beat. Sylar’s eyebrows alone…” Anders said, adding another comment about his character. “Adam is just misunderstood. ‘When God wasn’t happy with what he’d created he made it rain for 40 days and 40 nights. He just washed it all away.’ I love my lines.”

Kristen Bell: "I'm Coming Back" and Loving Her New Storyline

Well After many months of hoping and wishing it seems our hopes have come true. Kristen has just stated that she is returning to Heroes as our beloved Elle!

Kristen Bell might not only have more antiheroic days ahead of her (as reported last week in Ask Ausiello), there might also be a bit of a turnaround for her Elle-raiser. While she notes that "nobody really knows anything at this point" as to the NBC series' game plan for Season 3, she says, "I’ve had an unbelievable experience thus far and they seem to like me and want to keep me on board, so we’re going to keep that ball rolling for as long as we can. I think we fell in love. Just try and separate us!"

Bell is busy for the next 12 weeks on a shoot that will take her to Rome and New York City, but when she comes back "is when [Heroes] will be getting things together to start shooting. So I’ll be free."

Though Heroes' focus when it returns will be on big baddies, Bell's Elle could surprise fans. "She is so evil and so broken, yet she actually redeems herself over the next couple of episodes," the actress teases. — With reporting by Carita Rizzo

Bell herself had a bit of Heroes scoop for TV Guide. "Besides having had such a good time because everyone on that show is so wonderful, part of the reason why I will return is because they wrote me the sickest storyline I've ever heard!" she raved. "We already shot part of it, but the writers' strike interrupted the second half, and they can't air the first half until they shoot the second half. I just feel honored that I've been given this storyline."
